Lady Mustangs get split

After defeating Graham in five games, Sweetwater lost a 3-0 decision Tuesday against Breckenridge in a dual volleyball match that was played at Graham.
Kayla Chowning had sev-en kills, Maddie Berry five and Shaneese Brown, Kensi Chowning and Ziggy Collins four apiece against Graham as Sweetwater won 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 15-25, 15-9.
But the Lady Mustangs couldn’t stop Breckenridge, which won 25-22, 25-18, 25-17, forcing Sweetwater (7-11) to settle for a split.
Aly Heredia totalled 21 assists, seven aces and 12 digs; Morgan Gomez had 13 digs vs. Graham and 23 digs vs. Breckenridge; and Kayla Chowning had seven digs vs. Graham and 14 digs against Breckenridge.
The junior varsity team got a sweep on Tuesday as it defeated Graham in three games and Breckenridge in two, while the freshmen also swept by beating Graham and Breckenridge in two games. Sweetwater goes to Colorado City for its next matches on Sept. 3.
