Lady Mustangs rally past Snyder for 1st district win

After losing at Brown-wood in four games Friday, Sweetwater at one point appeared to be headed for the same fate in Tuesday’s district home match with Snyder.
But after falling behind 2-1 with back-to-back los-ses of 25-22 and 25-19, Sweetwater (17-16 season, 1-2 district) won 25-14 to force a Game 5 and wrapped up its first win in District 5-3A play with a dominating 15-5 triumph.
Kelsi Crosson had 12 kills, 14 digs and three aces for the Lady Mustangs, who were trailing 20-9 at one point in Game 3 before winning 50 of the final 74 points.
The win allowed Sweet-water to keep its playoff hopes alive with five games left. Snyder fell to 0-4.
Big Spring and Brown-wood are 2-1 and are cur-rently tied for second place, while Wylie is 3-0 and leads the district after a win over Big Spring on Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs host Sweet-water this Friday.
Kendra Crosson, Kelsi’s twin sister, had seven kills and 16 digs. Kathleen Campbell and Shelby Cason had five kills and Alicia Finn three, along with five digs and 10 assists and Finn, Campbell and Lariss Locklar had two blocks. Suede Shirley had five digs, 14 assists and five aces in the match. Cason, Kelsi Crosson and Taylor McPherson also had blocks. Kinsey Browning had seven digs, Allie Zavaleta five and Campbell and Cason one.
“Snyder moved the net well and was smart,” said coach Liz Miller.
“Our whole deal comes down to our passing and serve receive. We’ve worked on it very hard. Snyder is a good team and it will be hard to beat them in Snyder if we don’t play better.”
Sweetwater’s JV defeated Snyder 20-25, 25-17, 27-25 while the freshman team lost 25-16, 17-25, 11-25.
