Lady Mustangs shut out in finale

April 21, 2014

ABILENE — An 11-0, six-inning loss at Abilene Wylie ended the Sweetwater soft-ball team’s season Friday.
Sweetwater, which was 0-10 in district (9-16 overall), got singles by Cierra Knox, Shaneeee Brown and Maddie Berry in the game.
Wylie broke things open with a seven-run second inning, and used a three-run homer to get a 10-run mercy rule win in the sixth.
Wylie (6-4, 18-11) finished as the No. 3 team in district with Snyder (10-0) first and Greenwood (7-3) second. Snyder beat Greenwood 8-7 in eight innings at Green-wood in the season finale for both teams on Friday.
Sweetwater will be losing just three seniors, so the team could be stronger next year when it moves into a new district that won’t in-clude Wylie. Rebecca Gon-zales reached base twice for Sweetwater, first on a sec-ond inning walk and also on an error in the fourth. She was the only runner to get as far as third base, where she stayed after Brown’s single in the second inning.
