SW drops to 3-way tie

Because of failed scoring opportunities here Tuesday, Sweetwater’s softball team let a chance to be the undisputed second-place team in District 5-3A slip away as it lost to Big Spring, 5-1.
Sweetwater had eight hits, but produced just one run as the Lady Mustangs fell to 2-3 in district. Sweetwater is now in a three-way tie for second place with Snyder and Big Spring, with Wylie — which comes here Friday — just a half-game behind all three teams at 1-3.
Sweetwater had several chances to get on the board Tuesday after falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, but the Lady Mustangs didn’t score until the seventh inning on a two-out single by Kinsey Browning. Her hit scored Kendra Crosson, who walked and went to second on a fielder’s choice by Taylor McKoy prior to Browning’s single. On the mound, McKoy took the loss despite allowing just one run after the first inning. Alicia Finn got the last three outs, and was 4-for-4 at the plate to account for half of Sweetwater’s hit total.
