Lady Stangs win pair at F’ship to top ‘10 win total

Despite losing its two bracket play matches on Saturday at a weekend tourney in Wolfforth Frenship, the Sweetwater High School volleyball team has exceeded its victory total for the entire 2010 season.
Sweetwater went 2-1 in Friday’s pool play and will enter today’s match at Abilene Cooper with a 12-10 record. The match will begin at approximately 6 p.m. The Lady Mustangs ended 2010 with an overall mark of 11-28.
Sweetwater was a 26-24, 26-24 winner against Lubbock Monterey and also beat Lubbock High 15-25, 25-21, 25-22 in pool play. Those two victories were sandwiched around a 15-25, 11-25 loss to Pampa. In its bracket matches, Sweetwa-ter lost to Hereford 25-17, 17-25, 16-25 and Lubbock High 24-26, 21-25 to finish with a 2-3 tourney record.
Sweetwater won’t play again after today until it hosts Lamesa Sept. 6.
Kathleen Campbell, Shel-by Cason and Kelsi Crosson had five kills and Kendra Crosson four vs. Hereford, while against Lubbock High on Saturday Kelsi Crosson had seven kills and Kendra Crosson five. Kelsi Crosson had 10 kills and 15 digs and Kendra Crosson had eight kills and nine digs against Lubbock High when in the Friday pool-play win. Ken-dra Crosson had nine kills against Lubbock Monterey and four kills and nine digs against Pampa. Kelsi Crosson had five kills and 10 digs against Lubbock Monterey and Cason had five kills against Lubbock High, while Campbell had three kills in both matches. Kinsey Browning had eight digs against Pampa. Kendra and Kelsi Crosson had 10 and nine digs, respectively, against Hereford, and nine digs each against Lubbock High on Saturday. Suede Shirley had seven digs against Hereford and Alicia Finn six vs. Lubbock High.
