Lake golf tournament benefits local family

The "Adopt-a-Family" golf tournament held at Lake Sweetwater will benefit a family in Roscoe to provide Christmas gifts and food this year.

A Thanksgiving golf tournament was sponsored by and held at the Lake Sweetwater Municipal Golf Course on Saturday, Nov. 17, to benefit a needy family through the Sweetwater Goodfellows.
All proceeds and donations from the "Adopt-a-Family" tournament will assist the Gonzales family from Roscoe — a widowed mother and her five daughters ranging from ages seven to 15 — in order to provide the family with Christmas gifts and their holiday dinner.
Among the items that will presented to the Gonzales family at a later date will be food, utensils and over $500 in cash. The idea for the tournament was incepted by George DiJulio, the PGA Golf professional at the city course, and Sherri Shumaker.
Lynn Herndon served as the tournament director. Assisting Herndon with the event was the staff at the Lake Sweetwater Golf Course: DiJulio, Shumaker, Rosa Johnson and Ronnie Kingston.
The first place team, who each received a prize of a holiday ham, consisted of Wesley Gill, Jerry Pugh, Shane Pugh and Tommy Coons. Second place went to Tommy Millett, Ronnie Kingston, Brent Howard, Paula Timm and Lynn (Bubba) Herndon, in which they each received a turkey.
