Facing the top-ranked and defending Class 3A state champion Wylie girls, Sweetwater turned in a fairly solid effort here Friday and even held a few leads in the early going.
But the Lady Bulldogs, and especially scoring ace Peyton Little, proved too much to handle as Wylie pulled away to win 71-45 behind Littleâs 37 points â 30 of them in the first half.
But considering the caliber of the competition they faced and after a disap-pointing District 5-3A defeat at Snyder three days earlier, Sweetwater coach Candice Wyatt called Fridayâs game a moral victory for her team (0-2 district, 14-13 overall).
Wylie improved its records to 3-0 and 23-4.
âWe handled the defensive pressure a little better tonight against a high quality team,â Wyatt said. âI am very pleased with our overall effort.â
Sweetwater got an excel-lent game from 6-0 post Alicia Finn, who scored 18 points, while Suede Shirley added 11 points. Also scor-ing were Kinsey Browning with four, Kendra Crosson and Janell Walker three and Hayley Brownlow, Kathleen Campbell and Candice Hernandez two. The Lady Mustangs host Big Spring â which is also off to an 0-2 start â on Tuesday.
