Live entertainment returns to the Texas Theatre this weekend. The Sweetwater Texas Theatre Acquisition and Renovation (STTAR) board of directors, along with KXOX and Perfect City Productions, is hosting an evening of live entertainment this Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Texas. The show, titled Bob Livingston’s West Texas and Beyond Revue, will offer a variety of entertainment by performers from “West Texas and Beyond” including Butch Hancock (Lubbock/Austin/Big Bend), Dana Cooper (Houston/Nashville), Bob Livingston (Austin and the universe), Andy Wilkinson (Lubbock), Susan Herndon (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Bradley Kopp (Austin), David Carol (Austin) and Tommy McCoy (Sweetwater). These musicians are professional, seasoned and well-traveled entertainers who, collectively, have played “West Texas and Beyond” throughout their careers including such places as Australia, India, France, UK, Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Greece, Ukraine, Sweden, Denmark, Japan and every state in the U.S. They have individually been featured on programs such as The Late Show with David Letterman, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Crook and Chase, Austin City Limits, MTV, Kerrville Music Festival, Willie Nelson’s Picnic and other well-known venues.
The Revue is being filmed and recorded for future distribution by Punkinmusher Productions, LLC. Punkinmusher owners Jayna and MontiePowell of Dumas, Texas, provide video and production services for special events, music videos, commercials, documentaries, charitable events, freelance work and more. This will be their third visit to Sweetwater, and second to the Texas Theatre, to film a music/concert event.
The event is being presented as a fundraiser benefitting the Texas Theatre in its ongoing renovation project. The next major renovation to the Texas will be to the entrance and lobby area. Plans have been drawn and bids received, which include recessing the doorway and building an outdoor ticket booth, reminiscent of the original look of the building. Improvements to date include new façade, Texas neon sign restoration, marquee and neon upgrades, stage lighting and structural upgrades and set design on the stage, and most recently a co-project with Texas State Technical College-West Texas on the outdoor digital billboard. The digital board will be a source of community information and messages.
The show will begin at 8 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 1. Tickets for the event are $10 per person, general admission. Beverage coolers will be allowed for a $5 fee. The cooler fee entirely, and a portion of the ticket sales go to benefit STTAR and the Texas Theater. This event has been funded by generous contributions from individuals and independent businesses in Sweetwater and STTAR takes this opportunity to thank those in the community who have been supportive of their events. Donations for this event, which are tax-deductible through the STTAR 501(c)3 not for profit designation, are still needed. For more information about this event, call 325-933-4382. Donations can be made to STTAR, c/o 325 Oak Street, Sweetwater.
