LL all-stars start district tournaments on Saturday
District 5 all-star tourna-ments begin on Saturday, and Sweetwater will have Little League teams participating in four age divisions — 9-10, 10-11, 11-12 and Junior League (13-14) at Abilene-area parks.Sweetwater’s 9-10 year-old all-stars will start out by playing Snyder in two pool games on Saturday and Monday in Snyder. After that, the team will be seeded according to pool results and will advance to bracket play, which begins June 26 and is double-elimination, and runs through July 4. Nine other teams are entered in the tournament. Sweetwater’s players are Brendin Atkins, Logan Cornutt, Korben Cunning-ham, Jayten Cunnings, Brennan Faucett, Zachery Flores, Harrison Foster, Elvis Gonzales Jr., Leo Hol-sey, Antonio Neri, Tayton Thompson and Blade Wood. Ron Adkins is the team’s manager, with Elvis Gonzales and Bandera Wood serving as assistant coaches.Sweetwater’s 10-11 year-olds will play all of their pool games in a round robin format starting Monday, June 23 at Abilene Wylie’s Major League field. All teams finishing with one or fewer pool losses will advance to a double elimination bracket round at Wylie that will continue through July 4.Sweetwater’s players are Ethan Cortez, Ricky Delapaz, Holten Dickson, Jonathan Gallegos, Seth Garcia, Braxton Gomez, Andy Hermosillio, Thomas Hernandez, Skyler Painter, Ector Martinez, Hector Medina and Ayden Rosas. Andrew Medina serves as the team’s manager and Mario Gomez and Heath Dickson are serving as the assistant coaches. The 10-11 year-old tournament has four other teams entered.The Little League (11-12) all-stars, like the 9-10 year-olds, will start out their tournament with two pool games. Ramirez, Jacob Roden and Tyler Warner. Randall Rea is the team’s manager, with Kelly Andrus and Tony Roden the assistant coaches.The Junior League all-stars starts with two pool games. The first game will be against Jim Ned at 7 p.m. Saturday in Jim Ned, fol-lowed by Abilene North on Tuesday at Abilene North’s field, also at 7 p.m. Bracket play will begin on June 26 and runs through July 4.
