A local church youth group is offering middle school and high school students a new opportunity to ring in the New Year in a safe and fun setting.
The Salvage Yard is the sixth through twelfth grade student ministry at Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Sweetwater. The group will be sponsoring the "AllThingsNew - New Year's Eve Bash" on Monday, December 31 at the church, located at 1418 Hailey.
Doors to the event will open at 8 p.m. and there will be a $10 entry fee with food and drinks available. Each person will also be entered for chances to win door prizes, including $100 in cash.
The event is only for 6th through 12th graders and for safety purposes, a student will not be allowed to leave and re-enter the event once they come inside. The party will end at 12:30 a.m., and local transportation will be available for students whose parents cannot pick them up.
"New Year's just happens to be among the holidays where unfortunately, some poor choices are made, often life-changing or even life-ending choices," said Loran Rule, the youth/associate pastor of Emmanuel Fellowship Church. "The purpose of this event is to provide a safe place for students to have an incredible time, while sober, and bring in the New Year in a brand new way."
The headliner of this new event will be electronic music artist and producer Alejandro Cesar, who grew up in the electronic music/rave scene and has mixed music all over the world at rave parties. But after Jesus Christ came into his life four years ago, Cesar was given a new vision.
Understanding the power behind music, Cesar started producing electronic dance music with the salvation message. He knew that the music could be used as a way to celebrate joy and freedom while spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through turntables and mixer.
"It [Cesar's music] still has that powerful electronic techno & dubstep sound, but now it's infused with the promises of God's Word," Rule explained.
