Local Heart Walk set for October

This year's American Heart Walk/Run has been set for Saturday, October 20, 2012. During the Sweetwater Business Leadership Breakfast held on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at The Center at the local TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus, various community leaders gathered to learn more about the American Heart Association and the upcoming event, which will help raise funds to fight cardiovascular diseases. The keynote speaker at the breakfast was Karen Willis. To learn more about the local 2012 American Heart Walk/Run, contact Jerrie Gee at 235-4997.
Last year’s Nolan County Heart Walk was held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the Sweetwater High School track. About 20 walkers raised a total of $4,244 for the event, bringing the grand total to $14,171 raised for the American Heart Association. The top four teams were Texas National Bank bringing in $1,381, Texas State Technical College bringing in $1,119, Sweetwater Healthcare Center bringing in $422 and Ludlum Measurements bringing in $375.
Corporate sponsors for the 2011 Nolan County Heart Walk were Buzzi Unicem. T-Shirt sponsors were Texas National Bank, First Financial Bank, Roscoe State Bank, Rolling Plains Rural Health Clinic, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, Ludlum Measurements, Big Country Electric Cooperative, Sweetwater Jaycees, Stanley Ford and Lawrence Management. Mile marker sponsors were May & Hrbacek, LLP, Sweetwater Steel, Steve Mahaffey Construction, Sweetwater Spine Clinic, Cox Jewelers, Wind Energy Turbine Services (WETS), Sweetwater Firefighters #2943, Bennett and Associates, Harp Vending, Nu-Tone Cleaners, City Janitorial, Investment Centers of America and Richard Bowman, CPA.
