Local man dies in wreck

A local man died Thursday morning from his injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
Around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, James Vasquez, 55, of Sweetwater was struck by a vehicle when he was crossing north on Broadway near Locust on a motorized wheelchair. The vehicle was proceeding east bound on Broadway according to the Sweetwater Police Department.
Vasquez was taken to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital by the Sweetwater Fire Department. He was later taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene where he died from his injuries on Thursday morning.
The wreck is being reconstructed and an autopsy has been ordered in this ongoing investigation.
Next of kin have been notified. Funeral services are pending at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
