The American Cancer Society thanks everyone who participated in the 10th Annual Nolan and Scurry County Relay For Life

The America Cancer Society would like to say a special thank you to all of those that braved the West Texas wind to come out and support the 10th annual Nolan and Scurry County Relay For Life. The event kicked off with almost 30 cancer survivors taking to the track for a victory lap. Their caregivers met them half-way and completed the lap hand-in-hand with their survivors. At dusk, the track was lined with hundreds of lit luminaria bags to honor those that have fought cancer and to remember those that lost their battles. At midnight, the Fight Back Ceremony was held, featuring an inspirational performance by Team Chip, whose leader is a cancer survivor himself. The hundreds in attendance also enjoyed food, a silent auction, raffle opportunities, a Guitar Hero tournament, frozen t-shirt Relay race and tons of other fun games and theme laps. The members of this year’s 10 Relay teams took the track and walked well into the early morning hours with some participants walking over 15 miles.
This year’s event raised over $24,000 to help in the fight against cancer. This money will go to fund cancer research, education, advocacy and local patient services. The American Cancer Society would like to extend a special congratulation to two participants, Linda Everhart and Janice McDowell, who earned their exclusive green $1,000 Club shirt by raising over $1,000 each for their teams. Both Linda and Janice have earned their $1,000 Club shirt for the past several years.
This event would not have been possible without the help of our committee, sponsors and donors.
