Today, August 1, sign-ups for Sweetwater Youth Soccer will be held Friday, August 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hibbet Sports for children ages 4-12 as of September 1.
Several events are lined up on Saturday. A benefit will be held for Melinda Torres who is battling leukemia will start at 11 a.m. at the Jaycees barn.
Barbecue sandwich combos will be sold as well as tickets for a 50/50 raffle, barbecue grill raffle and silent auction with great items. There will also be a donor drive â€” cheek swabbing for stem cell match. Age requirements for the cheek swab are 18 to 55 years of age.

Also, the Reach for Recovery Car and Bike Show will take place Saturday, Aug. 2 at the TSTC parking lot at 650 E HWY 80 in Abilene.
There will be food and merch vendors, addiction recovery education information booths and a live DJ. Admission for the public is free.
Registration for the car and bike show will run from 9-11 a.m. with an entry fee per vehicle, per class. Judging will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the TSTC Reach Club and Student Government Association to promote awareness of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

In Sweetwater, a free symposium and resource fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Highland Church of Christ Gymnasium located at 425 Highland Ave. This event will provide families of children in special education with vital information on topics such as success from toddler to teen, therapies for home, school and community, and life after high school.

And starting at 5:30 p.m., the Nolan Volunteer Fire Department will be having their annual BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 2, until 8 p.m. featuring their award-winning smoked brisket, chicken and sausage.

Furthermore, Mike and the Last Call Band will be performing at the VFW from 8 p.m. until 12 midnight on Saturday, Aug. 2.
And on Sunday, Aug. 3, the 59th annual reunion of the descendants of August Spies will be held on Sunday, Aug. 3, at the American Legion Hall in Hallettsville, Texas starting at 10 a.m.
Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and dessert, with lunch being served at 12:30 p.m. Plates, utensils, cups and tea will be provided.

Also on Sunday night, Ronnie and Mary Lou Warren will be in concert at Broadway Baptist Church on 710 E. Third Street in Sweetwater this Sunday, Aug. 3, at 6 p.m.
The Warrens travel across America to bring their uplifting music and message to churches. Ronnie plays a number of instruments, including a saw.
Both Ronnie and Mary Lou sing uplifting music that many enjoy. Their goal is to see souls saved and to inspire Christians to use their talents for God.
