Local woman killed in plane crash

April 28, 2014

A local woman was killed on Sunday afternoon when a plane crashed in Nolan County.
Lisa Bowman, 60, of Hermleigh was killed when the aircraft she was a passenger in, crashed around 3:35 p.m. flying from Shreveport to Sweetwater.
The plane — a Bellanca Super Viking Tail — was switching fuel tanks when a malfunction occurred, causing the engine to stall and the plane subsequently crashed. The crash occurred one mile south east of Sweetwater, on private property near FM 1544 and CR 278. Winds were high, but did not seem to be a contributing factor to the crash.
She was pronounced dead at 4:44 p.m. by Dr. Rob Lawson and her body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
The pilot and owner of the plane, Richard Bowman, 58, of Hermleigh, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
The officer investigating the crash is Trooper Kyle Grimsley, DPS Sweetwater.
