Lovetta Faye Smith was born on June 28, 1942, to William and Minnie Smith. She was the youngest of 11 children. She became the bride of O.F. (Butch) Mayhugh on Sept. 11, 1959. Butch and Lovetta had five children, Cindy, Carla, Pam, Terry and Melanie. Being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend will be her legacy. Lovetta was a soft, kind and gentle lady. She was very soft spoken and always looked for good in others no matter how hard everyone else was looking for the bad. Often she would sit back silently in a crowd, happy to be the onlooker and never desired to be the center of attention. Lovetta devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She was at the birth of every grandchild and became "Granny" to her grandchildren. Each grandchild was made to feel special in their own way. Granny introduced them to cooking, sewing, gardening and everything in-between. She was never afraid to pick up a hammer or saw and tackle any project head on. Lovetta loved her flowers; she spent many hours planting and nurturing her flowers and passed this love on to her children. Another passion was quilting. Each quilt she sewed was stitched with love and became an irreplaceable treasure for the recipient. This amazing woman gave the most unconditional love. Her Christian upbringing and walk of faith with the Lord has led her to her final destination — Heaven. She had no doubt what so ever where she would spend eternity. She will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her and knew her.
Survivors include her children, Cindy and Lanny Jeffcoat of Crosby, Carlotta Faye and Victor Gonzales of Pflugerville, Pam and Mike McKay of Crockett, Terry and Mary Mayhugh of Crockett and Melanie Mayhugh and Kevin Smith of Crockett; grandchildren, Jeremy, April, Marcy, Lacy, Jenna, Lindsey, Michael, Victoria, Steven, Kase, Cade, Cory, Allison, Cassie, Ethan, Chris and Karen; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Colby, Colin, Peyton, Miles, Jay and Eli; brother, William Smith; sisters, Jean Griffith, Loree Hill and Jennie Hollowell; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
