Loyd C. “Pops” Bowen

HAWLEY — Loyd C. “Pops” Bowen, of Hawley, Texas, left this world to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Nov. 14, 2013. He was born May 2, 1938, to Everette Nathan Bowen and Annie Pearl Jackson in Forrest Hill (Petty), Texas and was raised in McCaulley, Texas. He married Sandra “Sandy” Kleinpeter on April 26, 1980, in Arch, New Mexico.
He farmed and ranched at various ranches in New Mexico and Texas until settling in the shinnery of Hawley, Texas to raise costal hay and cows. “Pops” was known for picking, teasing, quick wit and strong love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his cows and the waltz. He loved his church family and led singing at McLean, Paris and Hawley.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; two sons, Johnny G. Bowen and wife Kathy and Roger D. Bowen and wife Vickie, both of Sweetwater; one daughter, Becky Jo Fish and husband J. D. of Raton, N.M.; his mother, Annie Pearl Bowen Lair of Clovis, N.M.; a sister, LaVeeta Reed Knight and husband J.E. of Melrose, N.M.; one brother, Robert Nathan Bowen of Sweetwater; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Everette Bowen; and one sister, Jean Schuster.
A memorial service was held Nov. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Hawley Church of Christ, followed by interment at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater.
