Funeral services for Loyd Edwin Levens, 84, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Baker and Rev. Keith Clower officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Levens died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater.
He was born June 27, 1926, in Fisher County, TX. He married Marjorie Galloway March 12, 1949, in Roby. He later married Barbara Craig on June 15, 1969, in Sweetwater. After her death, he married Carolyn Lane on May 22, 1999 in Abilene. Loyd was born and grew up in Fisher County near Roby, TX. He worked for the State Highway Department in Roby and on Oct. 23, 1952, he moved to Sweetwater and went to work for the Sweetwater Fire Department. After 29 years, he retired in 1981. He spent many days off doing carpenter work, helping build different projects with Mr. Corley and Mr. Cranfill. He also worked for Hick’s Auto Supply. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Levens of Sweetwater; daughter, Schelia Schroeder and husband Roger of Denton; two sons, Eddie Levens and wife April of Big Spring and Charlie Levens and wife Linda of Fort Worth; three grandchildren, Sam Levens and wife Kathleen of Fort Worth, Dan Levens and wife Brandy of Fort Worth and Lauren Levens of Snyder; and one great-grandson, Austin Loyd Levens of Fort Worth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on July 7, 1998.
Pallbearers will be Sam Levens, Dan Levens, Doyle Graham, Kerry Baker, Terry Clemmer and Brant Broadwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Clemmer, Roger Schroeder, Merle Smith and Wylie Craig.
