Colorado City — Loyd Edwin Smith, age 86, of Colorado City, died Saturday night in a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May, 30, 2012, at the Calvary Baptist Church with Revs. Paul Smith and Jackie Brem officiating. Burial will follow in the Spade Cemetery under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Loyd was born April 5, 1926, in Mitchell County to J.P. and Julia Birmingham Smith and had been a lifelong resident. He married Margie Crouse on Sept. 10, 1969 in Colorado City. He was a cowboy on the Spade Ranch for many years and had owned and operated a restaurant in Colorado City. He was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Smith of Colorado City; three sons, Allen Smith and Skeet Smith, both of Sweetwater and Alton Currie of Henderson; four daughters, Karen Whitaker of Sweetwater, Annette Privitt of Euless, Beth Cade of Bryan and Wilma Nix of Midland; two sisters, Opal Alexander of Big Lake and Vivian Beights of Colorado City; 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Forrest Smith, Carroll Smith, Alvin Smith and Cecil Smith; and two sisters, Hazel Smith and Velma Smith.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
