Lucille Yates Martin
Lucille Yates Martin passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in an Abilene hospital. A visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 15, at McCoy Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. A private family graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, at the Garden of Memories in Sweetwater, Texas. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Lamar Street Baptist Church with Reverend Jerry Payne and Reverend Keith Clifton officiating. Services will be under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.Lucille was born in Coleman, Texas, to J.R. and Joda Yates on June 18, 1922. She was married to J.V. (Buster) Martin, Sr. on Feb. 10, 1940. They lived in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico until moving to Sweetwater in 1952 where she lived for 60 years.She loved the Lord Jesus Christ, her family, and her friends. Lucille had been a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church in Sweetwater for 60 years, and had served as church hostess for 40 years.She was very talented in all types of arts and crafts and continued to make wooden crosses for her family and friends up to the time of her death.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Mitchell Lee Yates; and a grandson, Sammy Lambert.Survivors include a daughter, Sue Lambert and husband Raymond; a son, J.V. Martin, Jr. and wife Betty; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, J.R.
