Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Manuel D. Santiago, 89, of Roscoe, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Bill Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery with United States Army Graveside Honors under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be said by Carlos and Connie Rodriguez on Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Santiago died Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Sweetwater Healthcare in Sweetwater.
He was born June 5, 1922, in Sweetwater. He married Tomasa Herrera on Jan. 1, 1947, in Loraine. He was a member of Saint Albert's Catholic Church in Roscoe. He had been a grounds keeper at Texas State Technical College until his retirement. During his life he also farmed, worked for Roscoe, Snyder and Pacific Railroad. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong resident of Nolan County. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and the Dallas Cowboys.
Survivors include his wife, Tomasa Santiago of Roscoe; daughter, Julia Jimenez and husband Margarito of Roscoe; sisters, Martina Quintana of Roscoe and Carmen Herrera of Coahoma; daughter-in-law, Gloria Santiago of Roscoe; grandsons, Jr. Jimenez and wife Becky of Sweetwater, Fabian Jimenez and wife Joann of Sweetwater and Christopher Santiago of Roscoe; granddaughters, Diana Jimenez of Roscoe, Linda Brooks and husband Greg of Somerville and Amy Lujan and husband Chad of Sweetwater; 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Santiago; brothers, Ralph, Visente and Raymond Santiago; a sister, Cecelia Quintana; and parents Francisco and Maria Santiago.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Santiago, Johnny Santiago, George Herrera, Daniel Quintana, Oscar Quintana and Adolpho Herrera.
Honorary pallbearer is Ruben Silva.
