Manuela Zamora Solano
Manuela Zamora Solano, age 92, was called to her eternal home by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. At the hour of her death, she was surrounded by all of her children and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Father Charles Okonkwo officiating. A rosary will be held Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at 7 p.m. at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.Manuela was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Snyder, Texas. She spent time moving with her family doing migrant farm work and then settled in Schertz, Texas and she attended school there. On Sept. 27, 1941 she married Roman Solano in Selma, Texas. Together they were blessed with nine children, sons Paulino Solano and wife Lidia of Sweetwater, Jacinto Solano and wife Ramona of LaFeria, Texas, Merced Solano and wife Lupe of San Antonio, Texas, her daughters Hortencia Carrasco and husband Joe of Midland, Texas, Tina Salgado of Sweetwater, Manuela (Meme) Estes of Austin, Texas, Isabel Valenzuela and husband Salvador of Sweetwater, Christina Castillo of Abilene, Texas and Anita Soto and husband Louie of Irving, Texas. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Francisca and Policarpio Zamora; two sisters, Aurora Mendoza and Maria Ramirez; her husband, Roman Solano; a grandson, Miguel Salgado; granddaughter, Mary Jane Diaz; and a great-granddaughter, Lisa Marie LaFuente. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Francisca and Perfecto Solano; brother-in-law, Benito Solano; daughters-in-law, Evangelina Solano and Frances Solano; and her son-in-law, Benito Salgado.Manuela was a homemaker who devoted her life to raising her children. She played a major role in raising her granddaughter Audelia S. Basey and great-grandson, Anthony Salgado. She was Catholic and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She loved to travel and had made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Paul Solano, Jr., Ruben Solano, Robert Solano, Tony Muñoz, Matthew Muñoz, Jacob Valenzuela, great-grandson, Anthony Salgado and grandson–in-law, Steve Basey. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Isaac Valenzuela, Derek Estes, Daniel Muñoz, son-in-law, Louie Soto and great-grandsons, Simon Sosa and Isaac Valenzuela, Jr.Manuela was lovingly called mom, mother, mela, wela, abuela and twinkie.
