Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Maria Ellen Saenz, 57, of Roscoe will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Father Charles Okonkwo will officiate and interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Saenz died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
She was born June 23, 1956 in Brady. She married Jose Alberto Saenz on June 10, 1976 in Ralls. Maria moved to Roscoe from Nebraska in 1986. She was a member of Saint Albert Catholic Church and was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Guadalupanas. She was a homemaker and had worked for Dairy Queen as a cook, Roscoe Co-op Gin, was a certified nurses aide, custodian at Texas State Technical College, a prison guard and a school bus driver. Before the decline of her health, she was very active as a Roscoe Plowboy Booster, Nolan County 4-H Booster and with the Boy Scouts of America. Her hobbies were ceramics and antiques.
Survivors include her husband, Jose Alberto Saenz of Roscoe; sons, Marcial Saenz and wife Armida of Roscoe and Mario A. Saenz and wife Lee of Roscoe; daughter, Estella Saenz of Roscoe; sisters, Estella Lira of Haskell, Diana Rivera of Sweetwater, Julia Vera of Georgia and Maria Pomposa Martinez of Haskell; brothers, Epifanio Cuellar, Jr. of Crosbyton, Andy Cuellar of Ralls and Vicente Cuellar of Ralls; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and several aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Cuellar, Rudy Mireles, Rudy Sanchez, Robert Sanchez, Jr., Harvey Flores and Edward Acebedo.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Chavez.
