February is an excellent time to focus on refreshing families. The celebration of Valentineâs Day creates a natural awareness of love and draws couples to evaluate how they can strengthen their relationship. To that end, Feb. 7-14 has been declared National Marriage Week. The goal of National Marriage Week is to elevate attention on the need to strengthen marriages, initiate new efforts to reduce the divorce rate and connect couples with the tools available to build stronger marriages.
Here in Sweetwater, Emmanuel Fellowship Church is participating in National Marriage Week by focusing on marriage the entire month of February through a sermon series entitled, âThe Marriage Coach.â Throughout this series, Eric von Atzigen, pastor of Emmanuel Fellowship, will draw upon 19 years of ministry experience and countless hours of pastoral counseling to share his top four keys to healing and strengthening marriages. The church has developed a website to accompany this sermon series. You can discover more and follow along at www.themarriagecoach.us.
âMarriage works,â says National Marriage Week USA executive director Sheila Weber. âResearch shows that marriage makes people happier, live longer and build more economic security. Children with married parents perform better in school. There are proven ways to repair and restore marriagesâbut most folks donât know where to go to get the help they need.â
Chuck Stetson, chairman of National Marriage Week USA says, âThe alarming drop in marriage rates in America combined with high divorce rates are costly to the nationâfinancially costly to taxpayers and individuals, and emotionally costly to children. We all need to work together to turn the tide.â
âCouples need to know there is hope; they need to know their marriage can be healthier than what they are experiencing right now,â says Pastor Eric von Atzigen, âThe Marriage Coach sermon series will give them the tools they need to start making immediate improvements to their marriages. Through this message series, I believe wounded marriages will find healing and healthy marriages will grow more vibrant.âÂ
The Marriage Coach sermon series will run Sunday mornings in February at Emmanuel Fellowship Church. It is open to the public each Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. For more information about National Marriage Week visit the website at www.NationalMarriageWeekUSA.org.
