Mary Ruth Prather of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, at the age of 77. She was born on March 10, 1934 to W.B. and Ruth Brown in Longworth, Texas. She attended schools in Sylvester and Roby, graduating from Roby High School in 1951. She attended Draughonâ€™s Business College in Abilene, but later found her true calling as an in-home child care provider. She married Gerald Prather on Nov. 23, 1954, in San Angelo, Texas. They moved to Sweetwater in 1958, where they raised their family and lived until 2008 when they moved to Lubbock. Maryâ€™s real passion was her family; she loved when all of her children and grandchildren were together. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sweetwater.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Prather of Lubbock; a sister, Wilda Deel and husband Max of Lubbock; a brother, Bill Brown and wife Susan of Cibolo, TX; three sons, Rick Prather and wife Glenda of Bakersfield, Calif., Jack Prather and wife Resa of Lubbock, Eric Prather and wife Amy of Fort Worth; a daughter, Sheila Adams and husband Derrick of Kermit. She is also survived by granddaughters, Jessica Prather Alvidrez and husband Josh of Bakersfield, Calif., Jennifer Prather and fiancĂ© Caleb Ontiveros of Oakland, Calif., Robyn Prather Woodward and husband Andy of Lubbock and Erinn Adams of Lubbock; grandsons, Ryne Prather of Lubbock, Ethan Adams of Lubbock, Joshua Prather of Fort Worth and Reid Prather of Lubbock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater, Texas with Rev. Phillip Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Sweetwater Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the sons, Ricky Prather, Jackie Prather, Eric Prather and grandsons Ethan Adams, Joshua Prather, Ryne Prather, Reid Prather, Andy Woodward and Derrick Adams.
