Funeral services for Mary Virginia (Jones) Massey, 85, of Sweetwater will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Reverend Terry White will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Massey died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at her home in Sweetwater.
She was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Tipton, Okla. She married A.J. Massey on Sept. 21, 1946, in Brownwood.
Mary moved to Sweetwater from Altus, Okla. in 1954. She was a member of Avondale Baptist Church and was one of the founding members of Central Baptist Church. She was a devoted child care provider for 30 years in her home and served in the nursery at the church for six years. Mary loved to do for others and was a woman of great faith and an inspiration to everyone that came into contact with her.
Survivors include her son, Gary Massey of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Judy Osborne of Sweetwater, Greg Massey and wife Marisa of Coldsprings, TX, Blake Massey of Abilene and Taryn Massey of Lubbock; great-grandson, Rance Lane Massey of Abilene; daughter-in-law, Janet Massey of Sweetwater; sisters, Opal Marsh and husband John of Buchanan, WV, Lucille Wright of Roswell, NM and Dodie Riggan Burt and husband Don of Merkel; brother, John Jones of Sugarland; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Massey, on Feb. 7, 2000; her son, Timothy Wayne Massey, on June 12, 2010; sister, Juanita Clark; brother, Tom Jones; daughter-in-law, Debbie Massey, on March 16, 1985; and her parents, Otis and Fannie (Hasley) Jones.
Pallbearers are Donnie Riggan, Darrell Riggan, Welton Guelker, Roxy Small, Butch Massey and Hayes Beam.
