Melanie Martinez to perform at local Sweetest Day event
Melanie Martinez, a contestant from The Voice, will perform at the Municipal Auditorium with Kimberly Dunn and Kristine Mirelle Saturday, Oct. 19 for the Sweetest Day Benefit concert.Martinez finished at #5 on last Fall’s season of The Voice as part of Adam Levine’s team. Levine said many times on the show that he liked her because her voice and style were unique. Her uniqueness was obvious from the beginning as she played a tambourine with her feet while she played the guitar, singing Britney Spears’, “Toxic” with her own softer, Indie approach to the song. Her look was also immediately unique, two-toned hair with bow and all.She is also very young, just 17 when she competed on The Voice. Now at 18, the Long Island, New Yorker is already writing her own music and recording new songs with producers John Feldmann, Robopop and Thomas Bartlett (Doveman). The young performer was definitely noticed by fans of The Voice and has a growing following. Her performances on The Voice helped bring two of her covers into the Top Five on iTunes – covers of The White Stripes “Seven Nation Army” and Alex Clare’s “Too Close.”Martinez also has earned herself over 93,000 Twitter followers and 94,000 fans on Facebook. Her producers say her ambition to make a commercial mark is fierce. Those who are looking for something a little different shouldn’t be disappointed with Martinez and the show at the Municipal Auditorium, which will include new Texas Country hit Kimberly Dunn and pop/soul performer Kristine Mirelle, who knows her way around a piano and a stage.Tickets for the show are $10 each or $25 for premium seats. Concert goers are invited to a reception after the show at the Sweetwater Country Club, where there will be snacks and a cash bar with an opportunity to see the performers up close.Contact the Chamber of Commerce at 235-5488 for more information on tickets. Proceeds will benefit the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium.
