Microsoft Excel Basic 2010 course to begin Monday

July 12, 2013

On Monday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 17, a six-hour Microsoft Excel Basic 2010 course will be held in the mornings at the Sweetwater campus of TSTC (Texas State Technical College) West Texas.
The course is one of eight classes being taught this summer in the Microsoft Office Short Courses in Room 210 of the Pevehouse Building, located at 300 Homer K. Taylor Drive. Each course costs $120.
The basic Excel class teaches the basic functions and features of Excel 2010. After an introduction to spreadsheet terminology and Excel’s window components, students will learn how to use the Help system and navigate worksheets and workbooks.
Then, participants will enter and edit text, values, formulas, and pictures, and they will save workbooks in various formats. Students will also move and copy data, learn about absolute and relative references, and work with ranges, rows, and columns.
This course also covers simple functions, basic formatting techniques, and printing. Finally, students will create and modify charts, and learn how to manage large workbooks.
Also during the week, a six-hour Microsoft Publisher Basic 2010 course will be taught all day on Friday, July 19.
After completing the short, six-hour basic course, students will know how to: identify components of the Publisher interface, open a publication, use Backstage view, navigate a publication, select text, create a new publication, add elements to a layout, and position elements precisely using guides and the Measurement task pane. They will also create a facing-pages layout, insert pages, move items between publications and work with master pages.
Other classes that will be taught throughout the summer include advanced Microsoft Excel and Publisher classes as well as basic and advanced PowerPoint courses. To find a full list of the course dates, visit http://www.tstc.edu/westtexasworkforcedevelopment/schedule.
Interested participants can also register by calling Cindy Brunett at (325) 672-9456 or online at http://www.tstc.edu/westtexasworkforcedevelopment/apply.
