Military care package donations being accepted

November 25, 2013

The final shipment of hygiene products for the Bravo company 2-149 GSAB (General Support Aviation Battalion), a military unit out of Grand Prairie that is presently stationed in Bagram, Afghanistan, will be sent on Friday, Nov. 29.
The first care package sent to the Bravo company was this past July. The company consists of 122 soldiers, with four of them being female — one of which includes Ruby Montoya, the daughter of Sweetwater resident and package coordinator Minnie Cortez.
Personal hygiene donations include body soap, shampoo and conditioner, razors, feminine products, and plenty of cleansing wipes, foot powder, eye drops, chapsticks and dental floss.
However, one item added to this shipment is hand and feet warmers, especially for the patrolmen as the weather begins to cool. They can be purchased at Tractor Supply, Wal-Mart or Academy, according to Cortez.
And with the holidays coming up, snacks and/or treats can also be donated. They must be non-perishable food items such as cookies, trail mix, jerky, energy bars and nuts.
"We are all so grateful to our military for their service, and it's a small gesture from us," said Cortez.
For those who want to make donations to the local care package, call Cortez at 325-455-4741. She can offer information on how people can drop off supplies and she is also able to pick up any donations.
