Funeral services for Milton R. Shirley, 88, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Rev. James Baker will officiate and interment will follow at Slater's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Shirley died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at his home in Sweetwater.
He married his first wife, Catherin Ussery, on Sept. 29, 1944 in Nolan, Texas. He married his second wife, Wynell Bartlett, on June 29, 1992 in Hawley, Texas. Milton was a WWII Navy Veteran and worked and retired in Civil Service as a carpenter and cabinet maker, with most of his career days at Dyess Air Force Base. He moved from Sweetwater to Abilene in 1969, until 1986 when he moved back to Sweetwater. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda Heath of Sweetwater, and Kathi Spaulding and husband Kenneth of Sweetwater; grandchildren, Chris Spaulding, Brandon Spaulding, Teresa Mitchell, Leasa Prano, and Kevin Bailey; 14 great grandchildren; step sons, Wayne Bartlett and wife Julie of Graham, David Bartlett and wife Denise of Abilene, and Richard Bartlett and wife Jan of Putnam; five step grandchildren amd several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ruth Shirley; his first wife on Feb. 9, 1991; his second wife on Jan. 11, 2012; brothers, Willie and Miaron Shirley; and sisters, Mary Elmore and Wanda Mullican.
Pallbearers are Brandon Spaulding, Chris Spaulding, Hunter Mitchell, Doug Mitchell, David Prano, and Allan Warrick.
