Miss Snake Charmer contestants meet for tea

Contestants for the 2011 Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant

The 2011 Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant contestants met on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at Texas State Technical College for a tea and learned the ins and outs of the pageant. The annual pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. This year, the Jaycees will have $2,500 in scholarship money available to the winners. A total of $1,250 will be awarded to Miss Snake Charmer while $600 will be presented to the first runner-up. The second runner-up will receive $400 and the talent competition winner will receive $250. The competitions will include talent, evening gown and casual wear this year. Prior to the pageant, contestants will be involved in several events and practices. During the pageant, Sweetwater High School senior Brittany Lashinski, daughter of Tommy and Patience McCoy, will turn the title over to the new Miss Snake Charmer. Shown above are this year's contestants, Tori Adams, a junior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Gary and Michelle Adams; Kathleen Barkley, a senior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Ben and Andrea Barkley; Shawnna Trench, a junior at Hamlin High School and the daughter of Bobby and Samantha Trench; Ashley Stevenson, a junior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Scott and Dwenette Stevenson; Magdalena Hogan, a senior at Ballinger High School and the daughter of Paula Martinez and Alfred Hogan; Laney Wallace, a junior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Tania Brown; Marisela Lawhon, a senior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Velinda and Jaime Araguz; Haylee Stewart, a junior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Alex and Jana Stewart; Erica Lynne Rea, a junior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Deni Rea and Randall and Crystal Rea; and Heidi Taylor, a junior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of T.J. and Rose Taylor. Not pictured is Carly Johnson, a junior at Sweetwater High School and the daughter of Craig and Nancy Johnson.
