Miss Texas DaNae Couch visited several Sweetwater schools while visiting Sweetwater this past week for the Rattlesnake Round-Up. Couch also attended the Miss Snake Charmer Pageant and was seen at the Rattlesnake Round-Up all weekend.
Couch graduated with distinction from Baylor University's Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Public Relations. After graduation, she began pursuing her Doctor of Jurisprudence at Texas Tech University School of Law where she is in her third year.
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the largest provider of scholarships for women in the world. Each year, the organization makes available more than $45 million in scholarship assistance to young women all across the country. Thanks to the scholarship money she earned through the Miss America and Miss Texas programs, Couch will be able to finish her education debt free.
The Miss America state and local contestants and their network of volunteers participate in more than 12,000 community service projects annually, donating more than 500,000 service hours to these worthy causes. The Miss America Organization partners with the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals as its national platform and has raised over $6 million for scholarship funds and children's hospitals across the country.
Couch's personal platform is "Hope for Family Recovery: Life Beyond Addiction." Her platform's message is to educate people on the signs of alcoholism and addiction and encourage family members of addicts that they are not alone. Couch is also the spokesperson for the "Unconscious Truth The Legal and Physical Effects of Binge Drinking" that educates students and parents on the signs and consequences of binge drinking.
Couch is the recipient of numerous state, regional and national twirling titles and was the Feature Twirler for Baylor University's Golden Wave Marching Band. She has also performed in two Disney parades and at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. When she's not twirling, she also enjoys performing in the court room as part of Tech Law's Mock Trial program. She competed in and won the First Year and Advanced Mock Trial Competition and was named "Best Advocate."
