On April 30 and May 1, the best MotoTrials riders in the country will come to Blackwell, TX to compete in the first two rounds of the American Motorcyclist Association's (AMA) National MotoTrials Championship Series. MotoTrials is an off-road motorcycle sport that tests rider skill by sending them through 12 obstacle sections per day; sections consist of natural obstacles such as rocks and hills.
The rider’s goal is to complete the section without putting his/her feet down, i.e. demonstrating their balance and skill. Penalty points are given when the rider touches their foot to the ground or fails to complete the section. Lowest score wins.
Sections are connected by a trail called the loop. The loop will be 10+ miles long. Spectators will be able to travel to the sections by following the spectator loop via car or foot. No spectator bikes or ATVs are permitted.
On Saturday and Sunday, around mid-day, there will be a youth trial. Non-trials bikes are permitted for the youth competition. Kids are not required to be experienced at MotoTrials. There will be about four youth sections grouped together behind the parking area. The youth trial is $20 per day. AMA membership ($39/year) is required.
The event will take place on Texana Ranch, located just West of the intersection of Ross Road and Bowen Road in Blackwell, TX. Gate fee is $5 per day, per person. Field camping is free with gate fee, with electric/water connection $25 per day. A concession stand will be available provided by the Bronte VFD. The event is hosted by the Central Texas Trials Association.
On Saturday April 30, and Sunday May 1, the first rider goes out at 9 a.m. and the competition ends around 6:30 p.m. the youth trial will be held during the day.
On Friday April 29, at 5:30 p.m. there will be an Animal Safari to see the exotic animals of Texana Ranch. The cost will be a donation towards the USA Trial des Nations team.
