Mustangs are off to 2-0 start
COLEMAN — Sweetwa-ter jumped out to a 21-7 lead after one quarter, and held double-digit ad-vantages the rest of the way en route to a 56-41 road win at Coleman on Friday night.Sweetwater (2-0) built its lead to 24 points on three occasions in the second half until Coleman cut into the lead slightly with a late rally. Taylor Jones had 18 points, Paxton Kelley 16 and B.J. Walker 11 for the Mustangs, who will host Merkel at 7:30 p.m. Monday before taking a short break for the Thanksgiving holiday.Sweetwater led 34-15 at halftime and 47-25 after three periods, after having to go to overtime on Tuesday against Hawley before winning 71-62. Gabe Medellin had four points, Kevin Sepeda three and Ryan Mercer and Jordan Houston two.The JV boys are also 2-0 after winning 35-26. Kyle McSherry scored 11 points to lead Sweetwater while Willie Norman had eight points, Ryan Linebaugh six, Cole Maxwell five, Nick Nemir four and Brandon Howell one for the Mustangs.Sweetwater was ahead 4-2, 17-10 and 25-20 at the breaks. All three teams were originally scheduled to entertain Colorado City on Monday, but since the football team is still alive in the Class 2A playoffs, Sweetwater will play Mer-kel on Monday instead.
