Sweetwater’s offense had 14 hits against Graham and the pitchers came up with 11 strikeouts in Tuesday’s non-district game at Newman Park, while giving up just five hits. Still, the Steers were able to overcome their lack of production by taking advantage of Sweetwater mistakes as they won, 9-5, with the help of nine walks, two hit batters, four errors and a few timely hits.
Nine Mustangs had at least one hit and Cameron Fox and Sean Morrow each came up with three, but the Mustangs still fell to 10-8-1 after their second defeat in two days. Six of Graham’s runs in Tuesday’s contest were unearned.
Sweeetwater took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Fox’s bases-loaded single and scored in each of the first five innings, but left 12 runners on base and never caught up after Graham took a 4-1 lead in the second inning.
Sweetwater hosts Wall at noon Friday, then begins District 5-3A play at Wylie next Tuesday.
