Mustangs win in OT; Lady Stangs lose two

December 3, 2011

Down by seven (33-26) at the end of three periods, the Sweetwater boys basketball team forced overtime and edged host team Coahoma, 43-42, on Friday to even its record at 1-1 at the three-day tourney. Taylor Jones’ 14 points and Kaleb Hoover’s 13 paced Sweetwater (3-4), which tied the game 37-37 at the end of regulation.
Sweetwater’s girls weren’t as fortunate, however, as the Lady Mustangs lost both of their games Friday at the Ballinger tournament — 72-42 to Clyde in its opener, and 56-43 to host team Ballinger. Sweetwater, which won both of its games on Thursday, fell to 5-6 entering Saturday’s final game. Candice Hernandez scored 12, Kendra Crosson 11, Hayley Brownlow seven, Kelsi Crosson five, Alicia Finn four, Elise Lawrence two and Kathleen Campbell one against Clyde while Finn had 19, Hernandez 13, Kendra Crosson five, Camp-bell four and Janell Walker two against Ballinger. Also, Finn had 10 rebounds and Campbell nine.
