Funeral services for Myrtle I. Scott, 89, of Sweetwater will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Reverend Chris Stephens will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at McCoy Funeral Home.
Scott died Wednesday, January 7, 2014 in San Angelo.
She was born October 17, 1924 in Grapevine, Texas. She married Dorman Scott on March 29, 1942 in Sweetwater.
Myrtle moved to Sweetwater in 1929 and attended Sweetwater schools. During WWII she worked at Woolsworth, Grons Drug and Anthony's Department store from 1964 to 1986. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church and taught in the Beginners Sunday School department for many years. Myrtle was the "adopted" mom of Ken and Kathi Spaulding and Linda Heath, the adopted grandmother and great grandmother of Brandon, Kala, Tanna Spaulding and Chris, Corbyn, Joslyn and Kelton Spaulding. She had many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her cousins, Linda Heath of Sweetwater, and Kathi Spaulding and husband Kenneth of Sweetwater; nephews, Kenneth Hollis of Haltom City, Texas, and Darrell Hollis of Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Docia (Ussery) Wilkinson; her husband, Dorman Scott on March 29, 1998; cousins, Catherin Shirley on February 9, 1991, and Johnny Wilkinson on January 1, 2012.
Pallbearers will be Chris Spaulding, David Pickrell, Rick Trafford, Clyde Wagner, Ervin Lehrman, and Chris Litt. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Spaulding and Arthur Ray Boyd.
