This next week, as the nation celebrates National Hospital Week and National Nurses Week, May 6-12, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) will particularly focus on the incredible work nurses and hospital team members provide each day for the community.
“I think it’s important that we stop and think about the miracles that occur each day at our hospital,” said Donna Boatright, administrator at RPMH. “Our hospital provides a wealth of medical care right here in Sweetwater and National Hospital Week is great opportunity to remind the members of our community that Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital is right around the corner and is one of the best hospitals in a rural Texas.”
Hospital completes renovations just in time
National Hospital Week is a nation-wide campaign where thousands of hospitals from across the country celebrate the healthcare professionals and their services that keep our communities healthy. What began in 1921 as the brainchild of a magazine editor who wanted to educate the public about the work of hospitals, National Hospital Week has become one of the nation’s largest healthcare celebrations.
Despite one of the most challenging economic climates since the Great Depression, RPMH continues to thrive and adapt to new technologies and facility improvements to provide the best healthcare services in Nolan County. The hospital will soon celebrate the opening of their newly renovated medical/surgical wing with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the end of the month.
“Now that renovation projects have finally wrapping up, we will soon take advantage of newer, energy-efficient equipment. In addition, the dramatically improved medical/surgical wing will help us provide a more comfortable experience for patients,” Boatright explained.
Nurses recognized for compassionate care
A visit to any hospital wouldn’t be complete without the professional, compassionate care of nurses. The men and women at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital who ensure your medical needs are met are one of the many important assets of the hospital.
Celebrated at the same time each year, National Nurses Week is rooted in the work of the profession’s most notable icon, Florence Nightingale. Often referred to as the “lady with the lamp,” Nightingale received her reputation during the Crimean War when she led a group of 38 nurses through the battleground, providing much needed services to the badly wounded British troops. As night fell, she continued her mission lighting the way with her famous lamp.
National Nurses Week begins on May 6 of each year, the anniversary of Nightingale’s arrival in Crimea and ends on her birthday, May 12. In 1974, President Nixon declared May 6 through May 12 National Nurses Week.
“Our hospital is known for providing exemplary patient satisfaction and there is no doubt that our nursing team has contributed greatly to making this happen,” said Boatright.
Focusing on the future
RPMH remains committed to remaining agile and continuing their mission of providing the best in medical care for the communities in Nolan County. As the community expands, so will the hospital.
Over the past year, the hospital has improved facilities and added physicians and state-of-the-art medical equipment. As the healthcare needs of the area continue to change, RPMH remains committed to adding services and technology that forges the hospital ahead.
“The center of any healthy rural community is a strong hospital,” said Boatright. “With the commemoration of National Hospital and Nurses Week, we will also celebrate our advancements in healthcare now and in the future.”
