Service for Nellie Henry, 103, of Sweetwater and formerly Lamesa, will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Cora Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
Nellie was born on Oct. 20, 1908, in Milam County, TX, to Simon and Nellie Sledge. She married Jessie Henry on Sept. 21, 1929, in Milam County. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1976. Nellie worked for the Lamesa General Hospital in the housekeeping department for many years. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Lamesa and also attended the Greater Zion Baptist Church of Sweetwater.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie; her parents; four sisters; and a brother.
She is survived by her great-great-nephews and nieces, including her niece, Harriet Hill of Sweetwater and her children, Christopher Hill, Christy Hill and Christian Jenkins.
The family suggests memorials be made to Mount Olive Baptist Church youth department, 1201 S.E. 11th St, Lamesa, TX, 79331 or to the Greater Zion Baptist Church youth department, 1112 E. Avenue B, Sweetwater, TX, 79556.
