Nelson Alfred Dressler, age 95, a longtime Sweetwater resident, died Monday, March 18, 2013 at Snyder Healthcare Center after a lengthy illness.
Services for Mr. Dressler will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home with Dr. Tommy Culwell officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories in Sweetwater, under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Dressler was born on Feb.22, 1918, in Sweetwater to August and Ethel (Aucutt) Dressler. He married Jane McConnell on April 4, 1949. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1998. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sweetwater where he served as a deacon until moving to Snyder. He joined Colonial Hill Baptist Church in Snyder where he also served as an ordained deacon.
He was employed for 36 years at the post office in Sweetwater as a clerk and a rural route carrier. He was also a member of the Executive Board of Big Country Baptist Encampment, Board of Directors of Sweetwater Fair and Livestock Association, member and President of Pioneer City-County Museum and member and President of the Sweetwater Rifle & Pistol Club.
Mr. Dressler was a volunteer in World War II. He served with the 12th Air Force 319 Bomb Group. He saw action in French Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Corsica and Italy. He was in the service for four years.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Bowen and husband Gary of Hermleigh; two sons, Tommy Dressler of Amarillo and Mack Dressler and wife Kathy of Mesquite; three grandchildren, Craig Bowen of Stockdale, Sarah Dressler of Lewisville, TX and Kate Dressler of Mesquite; two great-grandchildren, Carter Bowen and Kyleigh Bowen, both of Stockdale; and special friend, M.J. Merritt.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother; W.M. â€śBeauâ€ť Dressler.
No visitation is planned.
