LUBBOCK — Sweetwa-ter’s Nick Nemir was fourth in the boys 300-meter hur-dles Saturday after record-ing a time of 39.88 seconds at the Region I-3A track meet which was held at Texas Tech University.
Nemir, the only Sweet-water boys athlete to place, was 1.06 seconds behind second-place Blake Eschbach of Glen Rose. The top two in each event advance to the state track meet May 11-12 in Austin.
Nemir also went to regionals in the 30o hurdles last year but did not make the finals.
In Friday’s prelims, he also competed in the 100-meter run and joined his brother Sam, along with Ryan Linebaugh and Kaleb Hoover, on the 800 relay. Neither event, however, was able to earn a top-eight finish and advance to Saturday’s finals.
Sweetwater’s Claire Wil-liams and Destiny Osteen placed in the girls shot put Saturday but did not finish high enough to score points or advance to state. Williams, who after com-peting went to Graham for the softball team’s bi-district playoff with Iowa Park, threw the shot 33-1 to place eighth while Destiny Osteen threw 32-11 to place 1oth. Both were making their first regional appearance.
