New minister joins the team of FBC

September 15, 2012

Shown are Susan and David Woods of Tyler. They are moving to the community, as David will be serving as the Music and Education Minister at First Baptist Church in Sweetwater.

“Ministry is about loving God and putting others first,” a simple statement with eternal implications for the Kingdom of God; and the statement guides the ministry of David Woods. Woods is the newest member of the staff at First Baptist Church in Sweetwater.
David and his wife, Susan, are moving to the community from Tyler, TX, and he is serving as the Music and Education Minister. Woods is excited about moving to Sweetwater after having lived near Dallas/Fort Worth, saying, “We know that our greatest sense of fulfillment through our years of ministry has been in smaller, close-knit communities where our involvement in the community has truly been ‘community.’”
David holds degrees in Music from Dallas Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Woods and his wife have two sons, David and Ethan.
Woods wants to see others empowered to glorify God as the Body of Christ. He says, “I desire to use the talents God has given me to honor Him, and to assist others in developing and utilizing their talents to glorify Him. Regardless of the style of worship utilized, I seek to provide opportunities for people to experience genuine worship through meaningful encounters with God. I love students, senior adults and all between and desire to be used to bring the generations together in worship.”
“I am really excited to have David coming on staff and cannot wait to serve alongside him in Sweetwater,” says Phillip Thomas, Pastor at First Baptist Church. “David has a heart for God and I know God is going to use him in great ways as First moves forward with the message of God in Sweetwater and the world.”
David’s first Sunday is this Sunday, Sept. 16. Everyone is welcome to join us as the church welcomes David and Susan to Sweetwater. Koinonia Coffee is at 8:30 a.m. with Bible study at 9:15 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m. "Come worship God and grow with us."
