Funeral services for Nita Laverne Rogers, 80, of Nolan, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Truman Davis and Rev. Billy Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Maryneal Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Rogers died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
She was born July 16, 1930, in Girard, Kent County, Texas. She married Howard Rogers Nov. 22, 1955, in Lovington, N.M. LaVerne was a graduate of Abilene High School. She was a homemaker and had worked for a watch factory in Abilene and after moving to the Sweetwater area, she was an electrician for the Holiday Rambler Trailer Factory in Sweetwater for 10 years. She and Howard moved to Roscoe in 1957 and then to Maryneal in 1958. They then moved to the Brooks Ranch in 1976. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryneal.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Rogers of Nolan; her children, Pam Hart of Woodland Park, Colo., Danny Williams of San Angelo, Tana Rogers of Flatonia and Cody Rogers of Water Valley; sisters, Mae Carothers of Clyde, Dottie Newton of Lewisville and Sue Fincannon of Paradise, Calif.; brothers, Curtis P. (Pete) Sherman of Abilene and Joe Sherman of El Paso; grandchildren, Ross Williams, Myca Hart, Chelsea Hart, Rachel Williams, Hannah Rogers, Haley Rogers and Asher Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Stella Sherman; brother, Raymond Sherman; and sisters, Boots Ward and Edna Templeton.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Sherman, Joey Sherman, Brad Sherman, Tommy Ward, Gary Templeton and Jimmy Twomey.
