The 2013 Nolan County Health Fair took place today in the Texas State Technical College Student Center on Tuesday. This year’s fair saw a record 50 booths according to TSTC Health and Wellness Coordinator, Joni Coons. The booths covered nearly all aspects of healthcare. TSTC Nursing had several booths speckled throughout the event where student nurses checked height and weight, respirations, temperature and counseled on cancer prevention and nutrition. Ashley Lindsey and Brianna Guerrero, both TSTC Vocational Nursing students who are graduating next month, manned the nutrition booth. “I wanted to work this booth because I’m trying to eat healthier myself,” said Lindsey.Â
Attendees took their time at each booth collecting literature and swag. But perhaps the best takeaway from today was the free health screenings. The screenings included temperature, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, height, weight, blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol and blood sugar. Attendees of all ages participated in the free screenings and could be seen comparing results. The annual fair raises awareness for numerous health issues as well as connects attendees with healthcare resources in the Nolan County area.
