Nolan County loses almost 2,500 pounds

The Big Country Biggest Winner contest awards ceremony took place on Thursday evening, May 17, 2012, at Newman Park. Nolan County lost just under 2,500 pounds, the equivalent to a Ford Fiesta that was brought to the ceremony by Lisa Johnson of Stanley Ford in Sweetwater. The Big Country Biggest Winner contest came to a close on Thursday evening, May 17, 2012, at Newman Park. An awards ceremony took place with many teams present.
Committee member Ray Browning welcomed everyone to the ceremony and announced that Nolan County lost just under 2,500 pounds, the equivalent to a Ford Fiesta that was brought to the ceremony by Lisa Johnson of Stanley Ford in Sweetwater. Browning mentioned the sponsors for the event including the Big Country Medical Reserve Corps, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, Texas State Technical College, Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department and the Sweetwater Reporter. He also thanked businesses that helped with gifts for the awards ceremony including Brookshire's, Bee's Décor, Subway, Anytime Fitness, TSTC Fitness, RPMH Fitness, Kay Kidd (Avon) and local Zumba instructors Nick Alvarado and Isabel Beltran.
Lita McEachern, another committee member, introduced and presented awards to women in the contest that lost the most pounds. Third place went to Brandy Tucker from Ludlum's Team Cobra, who lost a total of 19.7 pounds. Second place went to Penny Mraz from Ludlum's Team Meter Maids, who lost a total of 20.6 pounds. First place went to Stephanie Garcia from Rolling Plains Rural Health Clinic's Team Fab 6, who lost a total of 27.8 pounds. She won a gift basket that included king bed sheets, summer fun plates, glasses and a tea pitcher, a clock from Bee's Décor, Avon products from Kay Kidd and $25 cash, all in a 36-can rolling cooler. Second and third place winners received certificates.
Committee member Carol Higdon presented awards to men in the contest that lost the most pounds. Third place went to Austin Mullins from TSTC's Team Wind Energy, who lost a total of 40 pounds. Second place went to Chris Maxwell from Ludlum's Team Half a Ton of Fun, who lost a total of 41 pounds. First place went to Randy Petty from Rolling Plains Rural Health Clinic's Team Happy Happy Hippos, who lost a total of 53.6 pounds. He won $100 and a certificate. Second and third place winners received certificates.
Committee member Tatiana Rodriguez introduced and presented awards to women in the contest that lost the most percentage of body weight. Third place went to Stephanie Garcia from Rolling Plains Rural Health Clinic's Team Fab 6, who lost a total of 9.27 percent body weight. Second place went to Loretta Hernandez from Ludlum's Team Half a Ton of Fun, who lost a total of 10.13 percent body weight. First place went to Toya Stracener from TSTC's Team Incredibly Shrinking Socialites, who lost a total of 12.74 percent body weight. She won $100.
Committee member Joni Coons introduced and presented awards to men in the contest that lost the most percentage of body weight. Third place went to Austin Mullins from TSTC's Team Wind Energy, who lost a total of 16.40 percent body weight. Second place went to Larry McEachern from Rolling Plains Rural Health Clinic's Team Weapons of Mass Reduction, who lost a total of 16.95 percent body weight. First place went to Pete Torres from USG's Team Fat Blasters, who lost a total of 20 percent body weight. He won $100 and a one year membership to the TSTC Fitness Center.
Certificates were presented to teams finishing in fourth through sixth places. Sixth place went to Family Practice Force from Dr. Jones’ Office. Fifth place went to The Slimsons, an independent team and fourth place went to the Unrepentant Thinners from Trinity Baptist Church.
The third place team was Team Cobra from Ludlum Measurements, winning $300. Team members included Angelique Wells, Brandy Tucker, Tommy Russell and Ramon Rivera, Sr.
The second place team was Wii Not Fit from the Sweetwater Fire Department, winning $450. Team members included Richard Spradlin, James Smith, Paul King and Clinton McKeehan.
The first place team was Half a Ton of Fun from Ludlum Measurements, winning $750. Team members included Loretta Hernandez, Chris Maxwell, Terry Frye, Leo Hernandez and Dustin Gibson.
