One person was killed and one person was injured in a three-vehicle crash occurring Thursday afternoon, March 7, 2011, at 2:55 p.m. The crash was located on IH-20 near mile marker 238 in Nolan County.
Ronald Manndler Jett, 52, from Lubbock, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Sharon Gardner at 3:40 p.m. The body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. Jett was not wearing a seat belt.
Mikle Lee Sadler, 62, from Loraine, is in incapacitating condition with a head injury. Sadler was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock via MedEvac. Sadler was wearing a seat belt.
Vehicles involved were a 2005 International Truck (18 wheeler) driven west bound by Tem Tanh from McDonough, Georgia, a 1994 Freightliner (wrecker) driven west bound by Ronald Manndler Jett (deceased) from Lubbock and a 1994 Ford pickup driven westbound by Mikle Lee Sadler of Loraine.
The 18 wheeler driven by Tanh was merging onto IH-20 from US 84. Tanh lost control of his rig and it rolled onto its side. The Freightliner wrecker driven by Jett struck the overturning 18 wheeler. The Ford pickup driven by Sadler took evasive action to avoid the developing crash and overturned.
The weather was clear and the roadway was dry.
Trooper Gilbert Valdez is investigating this crash.
