Opal Upshaw

ROTAN — Opal Upshaw, 85, died Friday April 6, 2012, at an Odessa hospital. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born April 24, 1926, in Walnut Ridge, AR, Opal was a daughter of the late Elmer and Bessie Lee (Pritchard) Jones. Opal moved to Hobbs, TX in 1942. She married W.R. “Pete” Upshaw in Roby on March 5, 1945. Opal was a homemaker and enjoyed many things like sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, collecting dolls, corresponding with her pen pal and riding in her electric chair. She loved to eat. Peanut butter and syrup were a favorite as well as barbecue and cheese and eating out at Dairy Queen. Opal was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church. 
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son (Jerry Dean Upshaw); one brother (Leo Jones); one sister (Louise Upshaw); and a great-grandson, (Douglas Bell).
Opal is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Bonnie Upshaw and Jimmie and Mary Upshaw; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Letta Jones of Kermit, TX; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Truett Eaton of Ft. Stockton; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
