Texas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced that Open Door Child Development Center in Roscoe has been honored with the Patriotic Employer Award in recognition of extraordinary support of its employee who serves in the National Guard and Reserve.
According to Brigadier General Jerry Icehower, ESGR Texas Chair, “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve.
Mrs. Cristal Aljoe, director of Open Door CDC was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard by her Reserve Component employee. "Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.”
Mrs. Aljoe was nominated for the award by employee SPC Jessica Ibarra, who is an Army National Guard soldier. She is currently working at the center and took a tour-of-duty to Iraq from 2008-2010. "I nominated Mrs. Aljoe for the award because I thought that she really deserved it. She is very supportive when I have to pick up and leave and she always shows interest in what and how I am doing," said Ibarra.
Ibarra is a 2007 graduate of Roscoe High School. She is the daughter of Marcial and Armida Saenz.
Aljoe also had kind word about Ibarra, saying, "She is very dependable and always joyful and we are very proud of her service to our country. The children here are very important in her life."
Ibarra works in the nursery at Open Door CDC. Open Door caters to children ages newborn to five years old and are licensed to care for 51 children. They also have an after-school program in conjunction with Roscoe Independent School District.
Ibarra's recommendation was endorsed by the Texas Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and subsequently approved by the Secretary of Defense.
As the 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions with America’s borders and beyond, ESGR will continue to be the resource for the employers of citizen warriors. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between employers and service members.
