Dr. Robert Eaker was named the 2012 Outstanding Young Citizen at the 48th Annual Chamber Banquet on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.
Ray Cornutt, the 2011 Outstanding Young Citizen, made the presentation for this year's Outstanding Young Citizen, which was awarded to Dr. Robert Eaker.
Dr. Eaker came to Sweetwater in 2005. He and his wife, Lisa, have three sons--Garrison, age nine; Grayson, age seven; and three-year-old Elliott.
He received his Bachelor of Science from Angelo State University and attended medical school at the University of texas Health Science Center in San Antonio; he completed his residency in Waco.
Dr. Eaker practices at Eaker Family Medicine, which is associated with Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. He has a staff of six in his office, which includes Marcie Crisp, Nurse Practitioner, and has three staff members in the Medi-Claim office.
He is currently the President of Medical Staff at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and is the medical director for the Sweetwater Fire Department. For the last four years, he has been voted "Favorite Family Doctor."
He is also an active member at First Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon. He was part of the Renovation Building Committee and he is a Sunday School teacher for the high school boys. He is also a member of the church choir and was a 1st and 2nd grade camp sponsor for summer church camp.
In addition, Dr. Eaker has been a member of the Sweetwater Emmaus community, and has served as a past board member. He has also worked and sponsored numerous walks.
This past summer, Dr. Eaker, along with his wife and two older sons, went on a three-week mission trip to Malawi, Africa. Although this is not a direct Sweetwater community activity, it does introduce Sweetwater, Texas to a global community.
He is also involved in area sports as a Little League coach and team sponsor. He is also a team sponsor and coach for youth soccer. Furthermore, he is a member of the Sweetwater Lions Club and has been a speaker for Leadership Sweetwater.
