Sweetwater powerlifting and tennis to begin

While it’s only Janu-ary, the official start of the high school “spring” sports season is almost here as the Sweetwater and Roscoe powerlifting teams and the Sweetwa-ter tennis team begin competing on Thursday.
The Sweetwater and Roscoe powerlifters go to Big Spring Thursday and Sweetwater will also have qualifying meets at Lamesa on Jan. 29 and Clyde on Feb. 12 before hosting the final qualify-ing meet Feb. 19. The girls regional meet will be March 5 at Odessa and the boys regional meet is March 12 in Abilene. Roscoe will also compete at Big Spring, Clyde and Sweetwater, with its regional meets March 12 in Sundown.
The Sweetwater tennis team begins its varsity season on Thursday by going to Abilene for a match with Cooper’s JV at 4 p.m. and hosts its first match Feb. 3, also against the Cooper JV. Other team play match-es will be Feb. 11 at the San Angelo Lake View tournament, Feb. 18-19 at the Levelland tournament and Feb. 25 at Brownwood. The regional team tournament will be March 4-5 in Odessa. Individual tournaments are scheduled March 25 at Frenship and April 1 at Snyder, with the District 5-3A tournament scheduled for April 7-8 at Big Spring and the regional tournament April 20-21 in Lubbock.
